A Brief History of TRTA

Trumbull County Retired Teachers’ Association came into being when a group of retired Trumbull County teachers adopted its first Constitution and Bylaws in February 1965.  They were an affiliate of the newly formed Ohio Retired Teachers Association currently named Ohio Retirement for Teachers Association (ORTA).  These documents have been amended eleven times to produce the present documents. 

The following is part of the Constitution and Bylaws of TRTA:

Article 1 – Name and Purpose

The name of this organization shall be the Trumbull County Retired Teachers Association hereafter referred to as the TRTA.

Affiliation – TRTA shall be the Trumbull County Chapter of the Ohio Retirement for Teachers Association (ORTA) and the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA).

The purposes of the TRTA shall be:

To promote the interests and welfare of retired teachers;

To foster good fellowship among retired school personnel;

To aid the advancement of public schools;

To promote continued education through a scholarship fund; and

To assist and cooperate with programs of ORTA and NRTA.
