Teacher Grants

Trumbull Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) provides four $500 grants for active teachers to support innovative activities in their classrooms or for school-wide activities. This grant program is open to all academic disciplines, grade levels, or building activities. The grant money should not replace funds already allocated. All teachers are encouraged to submit applications. You may use additional sheets of paper or prepare on a computer.

Grant applications are available in each building principal’s office or on the TRTA website (https://trumbullrta.wixsite.com/trta). The deadline for applications is November 15, 2025. Awards will be granted in January 2026. Recipients may use the grants at times of their discretion to conduct projects, activities, or programs which best fit the academic and curricular year. Each grant must be completed within six (6) months.

Teachers and principals must adhere to the following procedures that govern the awarding of grants:

  • Grants are limited to public schools in Trumbull County.

  • Grants should be innovative and academic based.

  • Teachers should plan closely with the building principal and other teachers or individuals having an interest in the application. Joint applications are acceptable.

  • Provide an itemized list of how the grant money will be spent; no food or clothes.

  • Describe the impact you expect the project to have on students’ learning.

  • Appropriate signatures are required.

  • Include a timeline the project will be implemented.

  • A committee of TRTA members will evaluate all applications. All decisions are final.

  • Payment for the grant will be made through the district treasurer’s office with an account to TRTA. Applicants should check with the school treasurer to meet school district requirements. Unused funds will be returned to TRTA.

  • No funds may be used for salary, stipends, or gifts.

  • Grant recipients will present brief reports to TRTA members at either the June or August general membership meeting.

  • Project must be completed before the end of the current school year.
